Dr Vee Freir

Consultant Clinical Psychologist/Qiqong Instructor/Writer

About me

After completing my training I joined the Clinical Psychology Service for Children and Young People, NHS Highland.

In 2003 I undertook the setting up of Maggie's Highlands at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness, whilst being part of the Oncology Department - Maggie's is a drop-in service for anyone affected by cancer - and, once the building was built, I became the Centre Head as well as running the Psychology service.

In 2006 I moved back to the NHS to be the Lead Psychologist for Primary Care for NHS Highland.

I also started a Private Practice in Inverness in 2006, which I continued until I moved.

After moving to the Scottish Borders in 2008 I took up a locum post as Clinical Lead for The Keil Centre in Edinburgh and had my own Private Practice. Once this year long locum was finished, I stayed on and became an Associate offering Clinical Psychology sessions until I retired in 2013. I retired my own Private Practice in December 2011.

I was asked to take on a post with NHS Education in Scotland in 2009. This was to make sure that Mindfulness was in every Health Board in Scotland, which involved overseeing the project, looking at the strategy of Mindfulness in NHS Scotland and offering Teacher Development Training and Supervision within the NES project. I retired from this in 2021.

From 2014 to 2019 I did individual sessions for guests at Chiva Som in Huahin, Thailand, I have also done sessions for people in South Africa and classes at Stobo Castle in the Scottish Borders, as well as being invited to work in Australia, China and New Zealand.

Currently I offer Mindfulness supervision and Management supervision to Health Professionals. I also facilitate Mindfulness retreats.
